~Port Townsend Arts Guild
The
Port Townsend Arts Guild is a self-supporting non-profit arts organization
founded April 14, 1972 bay a local group of artists and craftspeople
interested in creating a way to earn a living from doing what they loved and to
help others to do the same. In addition to having a small
store in Port Townsend, the group organized crafts fairs a few times a
year and juried other artists and craftspeople into these fairs.
As rents increased in Port Townsend, the Arts Guild focused solely on the crafts fairs as a source of operating funds and means for artists to sell their work to the locals and tourists who visit town. All of the Port Townsend Arts Guild's operating funds are generated by the high quality crafts fairs the Arts Guild is known for. We do not recieves monies from local, state, or federal sources.
In addition to helping artists sell locally, we provide scholarships to high school students who choose to major in the arts in college. We award $3500 to $4000 anually to Jefferson County students. We are known for funding cultural activities and foundations, food banks, childrens' art projects and arts emergancy relief in Jefferson County. The Port Townsend Arts Guild presents four high quality juried arts and crafts fairs yearly that feature artists from the Northwest and beyond.
The fairs bring old favorites and many newcomers each year to Port Townsend. Visitors can purchase handmade knives, pottery, beads, gold and silver jewelry, toys, clothing, home furnishings, mosaics, garden art, metal sculptures, photography, paintings and more.
